Other Funding Sources to Consider for Venture Capital

There are several other funding sources that you may want to explore. By other sources I mean private or institutional investors that usually funds amounts well over $1,000,000.

There are also Angel Investors that I discuss in detail on several other pages of this website. They usually fund amounts of $100,000 to $1,000,000. They are a great source because they usually make a decision faster that the larger investors. Also, they can usually offer you some management advice and introduce you to some strategic partners.

There are a few other sources, however. Although they may not be as popular or frequently used, they are definitely good sources. You should consider these additional funding sources. Don't overlook them until you at least explore the possibilities.

I have noticed that in the past five years Hedge Funds are becoming more and more active in providing venture capital to private companies. It could be they have more cash than they can invest. It is estimated that Hedge Funds currently manage close to 1 Trillion Dollars.

Although Investment Bankers typically work with only public companies, there are always opportunities to be explored. Talk to a few of them. Take them to lunch and pick their brain. Send them your Executive Summary. You might be pleasantly suprised with the information and ideas you get.

Like Investment Bankers, some brokerage firms will try to raise Venture Capital for a private company from time to time. They tend to deal with publicly traded companies even more than Investment Bankers. Sorry to be repetitive but, talk to a few of them. Take them to lunch and pick their brain. Send them your Executive Summary, and again, you might be pleasantly suprised with the information and ideas you get.

Remember, if your are new to the raising venture capital game, try not to get discouraged. If you have a start-up company and you are putting tremendous time and energy into, you would be wise not to give up your regular job. Raising financing can take months, and not everyone gets funded.

There is a definite learning curve. Hopefully, this site will be of assistance. I hope it helps you save time, avoid some pitfalls and reach your goal. You should be patient, but aggressive and relentless in your quest for capital. Every potential investor, firm, broker, hedge fund or investment banker that you talk with should provide you with useful information to make you more prepared for your next investor meeting.
